If ever the resilience of the small business owner has been tested it is now!
Small business is the backbone of the Australian economy.

• Small businesses account for 35% of Australia’s gross domestic profit
• Small business employs 44% of Australia’s workforce.
• Small business has taken a severe hit since early 2020 in particular following devastation with both drought and bushfires in 2019 and earlier.

This brief session aims to stimulate both curiosity and practice to cultivate improved resilience for the small business leader. We unpack what mental resilience really is and how it can be both cultivated and maintained. Several sources agree that human resilience refers the ability to ‘bounce back’, to recover after experiencing a particular challenge. One online dictionary refers to: ‘the ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like’. Understanding the term is one thing, unpacking its structure is something else. What we know is that people facing very similar challenges present differing personal responses.
Some rapidly ‘bounce back’, others are affected long afterwards. Different responses reflect differing levels of resilience in different individuals. Mental resilience is a skill which can be learned!

George Owen has a long-standing passion for adult education, having been lecturing within the behavioural science arena for over two decades. He has attained national accreditation in clinical hypnosis and strategic psychotherapy, successfully completing Master Practitioner of NLP, studying coaching, counselling and so on. George is passionate about developing more efficient ways to support people to make positive changes in their lives
