Gain the confidence to respond to an emergency situation by developing your basic first aid skills. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support and management of casualty(s) at the incident until emergency qualified help arrives at the scene.

Save time by learning the theoretical concepts of this course online in your own time. Our First Aid Course is designed in plain English and combines text, videos and an online exam. The in person COVID-19 safe assessment session is focused on real safety scenarios that you can put in to practice.

Provide First Aid, is a nationally accredited course providing participants with the qualification to be a First Aid representative in many workplaces and other required situations. The skills are also suitable for those who want to gain the skills for use in the community and home.

Anyone who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including home, community and workplace settings.

Entry requirements...

There are no prerequisites.

This course requires a practical assessment of giving CPR for two minutes to a manikin on the floor. If you are not able to physically do this component you will not be eligible for the statement of attainment. However, you may still attend the course.

You will need to have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) that allow you to read and interpret information a basic level. If you feel you may have difficulty in this area please contact us so we can see how we can support you.

This course will give you the skills needed to...

• identify emergencies
• identify dangers to self, others and the casualties
• gain assistance from others and casualty consent
• assess first aid management required
• seek assistance from emergency response services
• perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
• operate first aid equipment, including an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• apply first aid principles
• manage allergic reactions
• monitor the casualty’s condition
• communicate with emergency services and authorities the details of the casualty’s injuries and incident

Course Delivery and COVID-19 Safety

This course is delivered in a blended learning environment. Online learning takes place prior to the scheduled course and you must successfully complete the online assessment before attending the practical assessment session. You should allow 4 hours to complete the online pre-study and quiz.

At our practical assessment students are issued with their own equipment and manikins to complete the session. Social distancing and sanitising protocols will be in place. Any student who is unwell will not be admitted and will be offered an alternative assessment time.

We strongly recommend that all participants be fully vaccinated. Please note that some venues may require evidence of full vaccination as a condition of entry.

Course Outcome

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment for the units HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID011 Provide first aid. Please note the unit HLTAID011 Provide first aid incorporates all elements of all elements of the unit HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support.

Validity

Three (3) years from date of course.
It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council that the CPR component of this course, HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, be updated every 12 months
