Course Outline

Whether you are just starting out or would like to improve your personal best; our running program has got you covered. Take your running to the next level with CEC’s internationally accredited coach. Our running program increases physical fitness and your personal best.

Each running class training will be a mixture of classroom-based theory and running in a local park. You will learn to increase your physical fitness via running/walking as you develop speed, endurance, flexibility and technique. You will learn how to start running with the latest evidence-based information on nutrition, stretching, injury prevention and recovery. Utilise video analysis to improve your technique. Most of all, our running program will teach you how to prepare for your run with the right gear, planning/mapping and mental preparation.

At the end of the course there is an opportunity to join a local run club (based in Centennial Park) and enjoy regular weekly running activities.

Ideal for...

Our Running Classes are for anyone who has contemplated doing any running – from fun runs to marathon. Couch potatoes as well as experienced runners welcome.

About your tutor

Our running program trainer, Wayne has been at City East Community College for over 20 years teaching his two passions: Massage and Running. He has been the director of Sydney Health Educators since 1994, which provides high quality massage education to the community and private sector. Wayne holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage and is a qualified personal trainer with Certificate III, IV and Diploma of Fitness, Health and Physical Education from TAFE Sydney Institute.

As a runner, Wayne is enthusiastic about teaching others how to start running. Working with community runners of all levels – those wishing to run or walk a 5km race through to marathons and ultras. Hundreds of runners have developed their skills with Wayne as their coach, including a few Masters' world champions. Wayne started running competitively in 1990 and has been qualified with Athletics Australia since 1997. He is a Level 3 IAAF Coach (Middle and Long Distance), Level 3 Advanced Event Group Coach (Middle and Long Distance) and IAAF Kids Athletics coach. Wayne is an active member and coach of Athletics East and Frontrunners running clubs.
