Course Outline



Be prepared for every occasion: function, receptions, balls and dinner dances by learning the basic steps and techniques of the five essential dances: the Waltz, Cha Cha, slow rhythm Foxtrot, Rhumba and Mambo. Meet all of you social commitments and discover what it means to dance the night away.

The dances in these classes are partnered dances, however it is not necessary to bring your own partner. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee equal numbers of males and females in any given dance class.

Ideal for...

Anyone who wants to dance, because you can! Absolute beginners as well as people with previous dance experience are welcome to join.

Outcomes

  • Gain increased coordination and the ability to dance the simple basic movements of each dance taught
  • Gain a basic understanding of the music used for each dance
  • Discover how the speed and rhythm of the music relates to body movement
  • Gain a basic understanding of the skills involved in dancing with a partner and the fundamentals of leading and/or following.


What to bring

  • Please wear shoes with flat soles. Not sneakers or shoes that will ‘grip’ the dance floor.


About your tutor

Our Social Dance instructor, Angie Hughes, has had a lifelong love of dance and is enthusiastic about helping others learn to dance with confidence. She is a patient and understanding teacher who has been teaching adults various styles of partnered dances for over 15 years. Angie’s has a particular passion for Rock’n’Roll dance, Swing dance and Latin dance styles. She is a competitive dancer who has won numerous competitions at national and regional levels.
